The stale, dust-mote-filled air of the abandoned school library hung heavy, a stark contrast to the palpable heat radiating between Rei Miyamoto and Saya Takagi. Outside, the perpetual, suffocating dread of the undead continued its relentless march, a chilling symphony of groans and distant screams that, for a fleeting moment, seemed to fade into an inconsequential hum.
