The fluorescent lights of the advanced mathematics classroom hummed a lonely, sterile tune, their harsh glare softened only by the deep indigo of the evening sky pressing against the large windows. Kei Karuizawa sat alone, her perfectly manicured nails tapping a restless rhythm on the cover of her textbook.
